Diaconate Board
The Diaconate Board is made up of the deacons and deaconesses of JSBC. Deacons and deaconesses help meet the practical needs of the JSBC community by visiting the sick, ministering and teaching the Word, praying with members, etc. The Diaconate Board is based on 1 Timothy 3:8-13, which speaks of the qualifications of those called to this ministry. This ministry is crucial to the health and life of the Church.
The mission of the Diaconate Board is to assist and support the Pastor’s vision for equipping the Body of Christ (the Church) in realizing their godly purpose and spiritual assignment. We strive to attend to the needs of the members of the church and community spiritually. We have a passion to develop a more Christ-like congregation. We are strongly committed to the standard of ministry proclaimed and written by the Word of God as well as the standards proclaimed in our Church Covenant.
The Deacon/Deaconess’ Role:

The Deacon/Deaconess’ Role:
- Support the church: help the church navigate through growing pains that take place in our church.
- Protect the church’s progress: keep ourselves & congregants focused (through prayer) on the Pastor’s vision for the church.
- Encourage church harmony by supporting each other in striving to fulfill the standards established in our Church Covenant.
- Provide for the needs of the church & community by working to relieve the Pastor of duties that deter him from focusing on receiving and delivering the God’s Word.
- Prioritize the ministry. Nothing should over-ride the Pastor’s spiritual responsibility (praying for and spiritually teaching his congregants). Deacons must be prepared to take on roles that allow the Pastor to focus on this important spiritual area.
- Ensure the penetration of the Word. Deacons must be creative in supporting the Pastor’s vision so that each congregant knows how to receive the Word and seek to understand their Godly purpose.
