Soup Kitchen
Due to COVID-19, the Soup Kitchen is currently providing groceries for pick up every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. No sit-down meal will be provided.
John Street Baptist Church makes every attempt to take care of its members, and also provide services to the city of Worcester and beyond. The Soup Kitchen Ministry was started in 1983, with $40 donated by ten female missionaries, a Becker college student, and Marjorie Wilson – a JSBC member. The Soup Kitchen, in partnership with the Food Bank, and volunteers from local churches, has grown significantly over the years. The Soup Kitchen feeds 50 to 70 people every Saturday morning, and serves an average of over 300 meals a month. The Soup Kitchen has only been closed a few times since its establishment.
The mission of the Soup Kitchen is to serve the Lord by providing good food to nourish the body and the soul. The Soup Kitchen is a warm and friendly place where families and individuals can come to sit, relax, and enjoy a nutritious meal. The Soup Kitchen is run by a core group of volunteers from JSBC, and the meals are cooked and served by JSBC volunteers and volunteers from supporting churches who are on a rotating schedule. With the support of the Worcester Country Food Bank, donations from JSBC members and local churches, the food pantry is able to meet the needs of over 150 requests each month.
Due to COVID-19, the Soup Kitchen is currently handing out groceries every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. No sit-down meals are being provided at this time.
If you would like to serve in the Soup Kitchen, please contact Ms. Vonda Moore at (508) 791-4447.
